Frequently asked questions

We have included some of the questions we have received over the past 15 years, which should answer many of your queries regarding mobile rim repairs and custom finishes. If there are any questions we have missed, please feel free to contact Rob, and he will happily discuss them further.

General Questions

Where are we located ?

Most clients recognize us as affiliated with Audi Waterfront, where our workshop was based for 11 years. Since COVID, we have become fully mobile, offering on-site wheel repairs at your home or place of business. This allows us to service clients in Cape Town and surrounding areas by providing convenient, top-quality rim repairs at your doorstep.

What  does it cost to repair a scratched rim on-site ?

We offer a general idea of how much a standard, diamond cut, and custom-painted wheel costs to fix. We also offer immediate and no-obligation quotes over the phone when images are sent on all cosmetic repairs. Mags repaired by The Alloy King are substantially less costly than replacing the wheel.

What areas do you service ?

We offer mobile mag repairs in all areas of Cape Town, CBD, and surrounding areas, including.. Bellville, Durbanville, Kuilsrivier, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl, Malmesbury, Melkboes, Blouberg, Tableview, Parklands, West Beach, Llandudno, Camps Bay, Clifton, Observatory, Woodstock, Mowbray, Rondebosch, Athlone, Claremont, Tokai, Muizenberg and Pinelands.

Repair Process

How long does it take to repair a wheel ?

Depending on the damage, a single wheel takes approximately one hour and fifteen minutes, including dry time; if there are four wheels, approximately three hours.

Can you repair diamond cut or Machined face wheels ?

Yes, all-wheel finishes are repairable except chrome wheels, which require an extensive process to create. Our exclusive diamond-cut innovative repair process ensures the highest quality repairs available in the mobile reconditioning industry.

Do you remove the tire and the rim from the vehicle?

Our innovative repair process does not require us to remove the tire or wheel. This process saves time and money, as balancing and tire fitment are not required. In certain cases where you want or need to replace the tire, we recommend doing this first before having us repair the rims.

How long does it take to change the colour of my wheels?

A custom wheel respray on all four wheels takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Once finished, the car needs to sit for another hour to ensure that it is cured.

Do you repair wheels that are cracked, bent or buckled?

We do not repair wheels that are beyond cosmetic damage. Safety always comes first, and wheels with structure damage need to be X-rayed and fully checked for hairline cracks, etc.

To what extent of cosmetic damage are you able to repair?

We can repair the damage as long as the car drives fine. If you feel a shudder when accelerating or braking, the wheel is most likely buckled and needs to be assessed by a company that repairs this type of damage.

Appointments

Is there a warranty on your repairs ?

We take great pride in our business and use top-quality products to ensure an immaculate finish. All of our work comes with a 3 year guarantee on workmanship. This does not include damage, it cover fading, cracking, peeling and discolouration.

What do you require from me to complete the repairs?

All we require to complete our work is an electrical power point for my compressor. We have a 60-meter extension. There must be space close to the vehicle being worked on for my bantam bakkie and atleast 1,5 meter of free space on the side being worked on. See images below for reference.
